The Arts Explained.
AIKI-JUJUTSU
The techniques of AIKI-JUJUTSU are concerned with controlling or immobilising one or several opponents. Within the curriculum of the art are joint locks, throws, sweeps, strangles, pressure point holds and much more. Defences against weapon attacks and disarming techniques also form an important part of the syllabus.
ATEMI-JUTSU
This is the striking and blocking art of the system and contains attacks similar to those found in Karate. The way of striking, however, is different from that used in Karate and blocking is circular with emphasis placed on deflecting attacks rather than meeting them head on.
KEN-JUTSU
The study of the bladed weapons such as the TANTO (dagger), SHOTO (short sword) and DAITO (long sword) is an important part of KAZE ARASHI RYU. In training, however, a BOKKEN (wooden practice sword) is often used.
JO-JUTSU
This is the art of Japanese stick fighting and includes the study of short, medium length and long sticks. Stick-like weapons such as the YARI (spear) and NAGINATA (halberd) also form part of the curriculum. The TESSEN (metal ribbed fighting fan) can also be used as a SHOJO (short staff or stick) but is studied as a weapon in its own right.
