Club Instructor
Andy at the Grimsby Club April 2009 Instructor.
I am Andy Abernethie, and I have been running the Grimsby club for 9 years now.

I started training in Martial Arts at the age of 12 in 1979 with the KATHO RYU JU-JITSU CLUB, for 21 years up to 3rd Dan level.

During this time I trained in Wing Chung and Tai Chi for a while.

I was looking for a system which incorporated striking, throwing, controlling, constricting and japanese weapons.
I had seen several times Kirby Watson when he had visited Grimsby in the past for Seminars.
I had been introduced to KAZE ARASHI RYU and thought all my questions had been answered. What amaised me was the quality and the amount of detail taught, I had only seen a small fragment of the system on the Seminars, but i found it very fascinating.

At the end of 2000 I joined the UNITED KINGDOM KAZE ARASHI RYU ASSOCIATION, and started to run my own club from February 2001 to present.

I have just been graded to Moku-Roku (3rd/4th Dan) in Aiki-JuJutsu and Atemi Jutsu, at a Seminar with Vilaire Sensei at the end of March 2009.

The Jo-Jutsu and the Ken-Jutsu are arts by themselves and can be learned on their own, but in K.A.R. we learn all 3 systems, together, as each art benifits the other, which should enhance your learning.

I have been fortunate enough to go to the Phoenix Dojo in the USA, and trained there twice this year, hopefully be able to go back next year as well, those guys are awsome.

I have found that the training in K.A.R. is very addictive, the more I see the more I want to see and that SHOULD be the natural progression, BUT you cant expect anything too soon, the training and learning isnt just it, it is the internalizing of the techniques which takes the time, striving for perfection. As my Sensei says "PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT", as some people can be very good at doing something very bad, I always bare this in mind in my continued training and learning curve.
The training has changed my outlook on life so much, it is an amaising system which you can only appreciate if you study it.
It has as meany simarlarties to other systems as it has differences, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

I intend to keep training in K.A.R. to give my small contribution back and help with its continuation within the U.K.

A Abernethie Club Instructor.
